Crime is a serious concern in most societies, and people often call for stronger punishment. Some believe that keeping offenders in prison for longer is the best way to bring crime rates down. I do not agree.

Crime is a serious concern in most societies, and people often call for harsher punishment. Some believe that keeping offenders in prison for longer is the most effective way to bring crime rates down. I disagree with this view, because although prison is necessary for dangerous criminals, other measures are likely to prevent far more crime.
